4WD Vehicles and Minibuses
The Accident Damage Excess (ADE) applicable to 4WD vehicles and minibuses (IFAR-XVAR) is NZ$3450.
The Accident Excess Reduction (AER) is NZ$27.60 (incl GST) per day, $128.80 per week (5-7 days) or $368 per month.  Payment of the AER reduces the excess to $368.
The Total Protection Package (TTP) applicable to these vehicles is NZ$34.50 (incl GST) per day, $172.50 per week (5-7 days) or $517.50 per month.  Payment of the TPP reduces the excess to zero.

Security Deposit
Thrifty Car Rentals will collect a deposit on pick up of the vehicle to cover additional charges such as AER and sundry items.  Thrifty accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Diners Club cards.  Credit card transactions incur a 1.5% fee.

Self Drive Rental Equipment
Ski racks: NZ$69 for 5+ days

Snow chains: NZ$69 for 5+ days (mandatory if you are driving skifield access roads)

Baby capsules (0-6 months), child seat (6 months - 3.5 years), booster seat (3.5 years+): NZ$40.27 per sector

GPS navigation unit: NZ$11.50per day, NZ$69 per week.

GPS navigation units are available for hire from most New Zealand locations and must be prebooked.  They have a non-reducible excess of $805 incl GST in the event of any damage, loss or theft occuring to the units or any of its accessories.

Snow Chains - Queenstown Lakes District Council Bylaw
Please be aware that in the Queenstown Lakes District Council area, which includes the Milford Road, Queenstown and Wanaka, you may be requested by an enforcement officer to fit snow chains to your rental car.  If you are unable to comply, you may be fined NZ$700

Vehicle Collection & Drop Off 
It is normally expected that clients will make their own way to the Thrifty depot to collect or return their vehicle.  Free vehicle delivery can be arranged within a 10km radius of the Thrifty location but must be prebooked.  This service is available between 9am and 4pm Monday - Friday (excluding public holidays)

Road Rules
Road rules follow international standards. We drive on the left which is the same as Japan and the UK, but opposite USA/Canada and Germany where driving is on the right.

Vehicle Alternatives 
Thrifty Car Rentals is our preferred rental car supplier. If your required car is unavailable we will request a similar vehicle from another operator and advise you accordingly.

Fuel Information
The vehicle is rented with a full tank of petrol. You need to return the vehicle with a full tank otherwise a refueling charge applies.

Restricted Roads
Some restrictions apply to unsealed and outback roads and to some alpine regions during the winter.

In New Zealand you must not drive or take rental vehicles on the following roads:

• Skippers Canyon Road- Queenstown
• 90 mile beach - Northland

Standard Terms & Conditions
The following conditions apply to all vehicle hires:

• Driver Qualifications
  All drivers must be 21 years of age or over, with a current, full drivers licence, in English,  that has been held for at least one year, valid for the period of the rental. Probationary licences are not acceptable nor are photocopies. Current international licences are acceptable when accompanied by a licence of origin.
  For identification purposes, a credit card is also required. Photocopies are not acceptable.
• Drivers 21-24 years of age incur a surcharge of NZ$17.25 per driver per hire
• An NZ$11.50 fee applies to each additional driver, per hire
  
• Vehicle Type
  We will always do our best to provide you with your preferred car, though we do reserve the right to substitute for another similar vehicle of equivalent or better specification.
  
• Inter Island Hires
  Inter Island hires are available for clients who wish to travel through both islands of New Zealand. Cars are returned to depots in Picton and Wellington and a fresh vehicle is provided when clients disembark the ferry on the other side.
